We became friends with Ann when we lived in Honolulu in the early 1970s, and met Ginger when we moved to the Pacific Northwest and first visited Lopez Island in 1973. She graciously embraced us and introduced us to her island life as we continued to visit in those early years. Always so kind and generous, with such sparkle, spirit and grit, she seemed to epitomize what one needed to make island life work. I thank both Ann and Virginia for sharing so many Lopez experiences with us over the years and for inspiring my continued love affair with the island. I will surely miss Virginia, and will never forget her.
